When the New Testament addresses spiritual maturity, it uses the common Greek word teleios, which means “perfect” or “complete.”
When it is applied to Christian growth, it indicates spiritual maturity in contrast to childlike immaturity as, for example, in this command from Paul: “Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature (teleioi).” (1 Cor. 14:20; see also Heb.5:13–6:1).
Spiritual maturity is an ongoing, daily relationship with the Lord. It means being a part of a greater spiritual family. In other words, not being proud of your own work but wanting to minister to people and be honest about your own failings so you can build genuine relationships.
According to Ligonier Ministries, there are four essentials for spiritual maturity: preaching the mystery of Christ, prayer, fellowship, and obedience.
John MacArthur, a well-known pastor, suggests that spiritual maturity is a gradual process of developing healthy and life-giving ways of relating one to oneself, to others, and to the environment. He also provides a list of ten signs that indicate spiritual maturity, such as humility, forgiveness, and gratitude.
In summary, spiritual maturity is a state of being that involves a deep and ongoing relationship with God, a willingness to be part of a community, and a commitment to personal growth and development.
The Bible contains many scriptures that describe the need to grow and mature spiritually. Here are some examples of Bible verses about spiritual maturity:
Ephesians 4:14,15 - Be no longer children, but grow up in Christ.
2 Peter 3:18 - but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 1:3 - The Thessalonians grew exceedingly in faith.
1 Corinthians 14:20 - Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.
Hebrews 5:12-14 - For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
Amen and To God Be The Glory...
