“SOME PEOPLE WILL TEACH YOU HOW NOT TO BE”

In life, not every lesson comes wrapped in kindness or good intentions. Sometimes, the most valuable lessons come from observing what not to do. The bitterness of betrayal, the sting of harsh words, the disappointment of broken promises. These experiences shape us, not by example, but by contrast. They teach us how not to treat others. They show us how not to carry ourselves.
God uses every person and every moment for our growth, even the difficult ones. Instead of becoming bitter or resentful, we can choose to let those moments refine us. We can say, “Because I know how that made me feel, I will never do that to someone else.” The negative behavior of others becomes the boundary lines for the person God is molding us to be.
Jesus Himself warned us to be discerning, to observe, and to learn, even from the darkness of this world.
Let the actions of others, both good and bad, sharpen your character. When someone shows you selfishness, choose generosity. When they show cruelty, choose compassion. When they show pride, choose humility.
“Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21 (NIV)
Heavenly Father, I thank You for using every experience, even the painful ones to teach me. Help me to learn not only from the good examples but also from the bad. When I see pride, teach me humility. When I see bitterness, teach me grace. When I see cruelty, teach me kindness. I choose to overcome evil with good. Mold me into the person You desire me to be, even through the difficult lessons. In Jesus’ name I pray.
Amen and To God Be The Glory!
With Love and Prayers,
Rev. Dr. Roberta M. Heck, Chaplain
