“DWELLING IN THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST HIGH”

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 (KJV)

There is a difference between visiting God and dwelling with God. Many come to Him in moments of crisis or desperation, but Psalm 91 does not describe a temporary refuge. It speaks of a permanent residence.

To dwell in the secret place of the Most High means to live in continual fellowship with God… to abide in His presence not just on Sundays or in emergencies, but daily, hourly, moment by moment. It is a heart postured toward Him, seeking Him first, trusting Him wholly, desiring Him above all else.

When we choose to dwell, not just glance His way occasionally, something divine happens: we “abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” His shadow represents His nearness, His covering, His protection. You cannot be in someone’s shadow unless you are close to them. And when you remain close to God, no weapon formed against you can succeed. His shadow shields you from spiritual attacks, emotional turmoil, and unseen dangers. Even when storms rage around you, you are hidden beneath His wings.

This promise is not for the casual believer, it is for the one who dwells, the one who abides. It is for those who choose intimacy over indifference. It is an invitation to live not in fear but in confidence, knowing that the Almighty ~ El Shaddai, the God of more than enough covers you.

Let Psalm 27:5 echo this truth: “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” Psalm 27:5 (KJV)

God is not merely your rescue; He is your residence. Let your heart be His home.

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me into Your secret place. Thank You that I do not have to walk through life alone or unprotected. Teach me to dwell, not just visit, Your presence daily. Draw me closer, Lord, until I live continually under the shadow of Your wings. Let my thoughts, my desires, and my steps remain aligned with You. I choose to trust You, to rest in You, and to abide in Your love. Cover me, keep me, and use me for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen and To God Be The Glory!

With love and prayers,

Rev. Dr. Roberta M. Heck, Chaplain
