“SITTING WITH THE BROKEN”

In a world obsessed with greatness, titles, influence, and applause, Jesus models something radically different. He didn’t chase stages or seek the company of the powerful. He knelt with the wounded. He touched the leper. He defended the adulteress. He wept with the grieving. Jesus didn’t avoid the mess of brokenness; He entered it.
True greatness in the Kingdom of God is not measured by the people we impress, but by the people we’re willing to sit with when no one is watching. The question isn’t how high we’ve climbed, but how low we’re willing to stoop in love.
To sit with the broken is to reflect the very heart of Christ. It means seeing value where the world sees shame. It means listening instead of fixing, being present instead of busy, and loving without condition.
Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” Not the confident, not the polished, but the broken. And if we’re to be like Him, we’ll go where He went: to the place’s others avoid, to the people others overlook.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
Dear Father in Heaven, please teach me to see people the way You see them. Help me not to seek status, but to seek souls. Give me the compassion to sit with the broken, the courage to enter their pain, and the humility to know that I too am in need of grace. Let me feel the brokenness in my heart for what breaks Yours and let me be a vessel of Your healing love. In Jesus name I pray, Amen and To God Be The Glory!
With love, faith, and fervent prayers,
Rev. Dr. Roberta M. Heck, Chaplain
