“A WISE EAR SLIENCES GOSSIP”

Gossip is like a wildfire — it spreads quickly, destroys reputations, and leaves behind ashes of trust. It often starts with a bitter heart, finds legs through careless tongues, and is sustained by naive minds. But when it reaches a wise person, it dies.
The Bible calls us to be discerning, not just in what we say, but in what we choose to hear and believe. Proverbs remind us that without fuel, a fire cannot burn. In the same way, when a wise person hears gossip, they don’t spread it. They don’t entertain it. They stop it in its tracks, because they know the damage it causes and the spirit it comes from.
Wisdom isn’t just about having knowledge; it’s about applying godly understanding in real situations. A wise person knows that rumors are tools of the enemy meant to divide, distract, and destroy. But you can choose a different path, the way of integrity, silence, and prayer. You can choose to be the end of gossip, not its echo.
Let the words you speak, and the ones you listen to, be filtered through God’s wisdom. Be a person who others know will not tolerate slander, but, someone who builds up, not tears down.
“Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down.” Proverbs 26:20 (NIV)
Heavenly Father, give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to stay silent. Help me to recognize gossip when it comes my way, and give me the courage to stop it with grace and truth. Guard my ears from lies and my heart from judgment. Make me a vessel of peace, not division. Let my words reflect Your love, and may my presence bring calm where chaos tries to grow. In Jesus’ name, Amen and To God Be The Glory!
