“WHY DOES GOD BREAK THE ONES HE WANTS TO USE”

There is a mysterious, holy pattern woven throughout Scripture: before God uses someone greatly, He breaks them deeply. It’s not punishment, it’s preparation. It’s not rejection, it’s refinement. And though every part of us longs for the oil of anointment, very few welcome the crushing that produces it.
We find that there are those who desire the calling, but not the cost. But God, a loving, wise, intentional, and all knowing ~ knows that before He places greatness upon us, He must remove anything within us that would sabotage His purpose.
When we dig a little deeper, we learn that the “Breaking Comes Before the Birthing”. Take Hannah: She was broken before she carried the promise. Hannah’s womb was empty, and her heart even emptier. She cried until she could cry no more. She was misunderstood, mocked, provoked, and discounted. But in her breaking, she gave birth to a prayer for life that produced a prophet. Before she carried Samuel in her arms, she carried surrender in her spirit. Her breaking became her birthing.
Then there is Esther: She was hidden before she was crowned. Esther didn’t start on a throne, she started as an orphan, tucked away, unseen. God hid her before He exalted her. Her breaking was in losing her family, her identity, her familiarity, which prepared her to save her people. Before she wore a crown, she learned to trust the One who writes destinies in secret places.
Let us not forget the most important of all, Mary: She was judged before she was chosen. Mary carried and birthed our Savior, but she first carried scandal. Before she was celebrated, she was whispered about. Before she was honored, she endured misunderstanding. God trusted her with rejection because He trusted her with redemption. Breaking always precedes birthing, both literally and spiritually.
Now the question is why does God break the ones He wants to use? The answer has been made quite clear, and it’s because the vessel must be emptied before it can be filled. Because pride must die before purpose can live. Because the anointing cannot rest on flesh that refuses surrender. The breaking is not destruction, it’s construction. It shapes humility, dependency, purity, obedience. God breaks what He intends to rebuild stronger. He crushes what He intends to make valuable. He empties what He intends to overflow.
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:17 (KJV)
This is Heaven’s paradox, that what man rejects, God receives. What the world despises, God anoints. What life breaks, God uses. Today just remember, your breaking is not your end ~ it is your molding. Your crushing is not God’s cruelty ~ it is His calling. Your emptiness is not abandonment ~ it is divine preparation. Where you feel pressed, God is producing oil. Where you feel stripped, God is rebuilding foundation. Where you feel unseen, God is positioning you. He is not breaking you apart, He is breaking you open. Because what He places inside you next wouldn’t fit into who you were before.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to shape me, refine me, and prepare me for Your purpose. When I feel crushed, remind me that You are producing oil. When I feel emptied, remind me that You are preparing to fill me. Give me the strength to trust You in the breaking, the faith to surrender in the crushing, and the courage to walk in the calling You have placed on my life. Use my pain for purpose, my trials for testimony, and my breaking for birthing. I submit myself fully to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen and To God Be The Glory!
