THIS MONTH'S VISITING POET
Can You Spare Change?
By Adrienne Fowler

Change? Change? Can you spare change please,

For poor old me, weak and on my knees?

I have no home I’m chilled by the breeze,

My clothes are filthy I’m a haven for disease.

I had once walked the Street of Success with swagger and ease,

But now I'm the subject of much ridicule and tease.

Since then, I have converted to a life of sin.

I was ready to give up until someone heard my pleas.

I had nothing to lose when Jesus reeled me in.

Like a hawk, He swooped down and grabbed me.

The talons of His word penetrated my heart.

He wouldn’t let me out of his clutches,

Until He had given me a fresh start.

Before I found Jesus, I had a sinner’s mentality, and only believed in my reality.

I was oblivious to His goodness I had no spirituality.

He then took the cap of destruction off my head and placed the helmet of Salvation.

Today I have a new mind and better realization.

Before I found Jesus, my tongue was corrupt.

The language I spoke was a serpent constricting my throat,

So I gave to the wicked my voice and lost all hope.

But God untangled my voice, and now it is free for me to rejoice happily.

Before I found Jesus, I bore the burden of the world.

I crumpled under pressure and stress unfurled.

But when I came across Mathew chapter 11 verse 28,

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest”

I found peace and was able to take my load off my chest.

I’m not the same person as I was before.

With God I’ve established a great rapport.

For those who question my sudden change of heart,

They have failed to acknowledge an important part.

I was willing to accept Jesus I welcomed Him in.

Now we walk and talk together like kin.

The question to consider is can you spare change?

Do you want to be saved by His grace, or do you want to stay the same.

Just look at me as an example of this wonderful transformation.

I went from begging for change,

To knowing His name.
